You have walked up and down the magnificent boulevard Passeig de Gracia for shopping and / or sightseeing. You admired the masterpieces of Gaudí: La Pedrera and Casa Batllo. And your arms now filled with local specialties (Zara, Massimo Dutti … 😉 ) ask for only one thing: a little rest! All you have to do is convince your legs to hold on a bit and go up to the top of the boulevard. You will then reach a small park (Garden of Salvador Espriu) dominated by the majestic hotel Casa Fuster.
It is first of all its white marble facade that attracts the eye. When looking up from the base, we can see the solid columns surrounding the buildings, then the windows in triptychs surrounded by floral motifs, all hatted by a rather original roof for the city of Barcelona, on which rests the rooftop we are interested in. This building is one of the last of modernist style. It was built by the Catalan architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner between 1908 and 1911. It became a luxury hotel in 2004 after its renovation, after many years of defection.
The rooftop Mirador Blue View offers a variety of tables and raised chairs to enjoy the view of Passeig de Gracia and the entire Eixample district. You can see the perspective of this great boulevard, the Sagrada Familia and the Tibidabo mountain overlooking Barcelona. The terrace also offers comfortable sofas and a small pool if it was really too hot!
Let’s clear the doubts immediately: the cocktails are up to the 5 stars rating of the hotel Casa Fuster. The prices will also be somewhat higher than those of the city, but they are real cocktails worked and with many flavors. The kitchens will also be able to cater to your small and big dips, presenting a varied selection of tapas or more substantial dishes (such as the various hamburgers with names related to the place such as “Modernist” or “El Mirador”).
- You will find the rooftop by entering through the main door on the right of the building. Before taking the elevator (on your right), take a look at the lounges on the left!
- Do you like jazz and it’s a bit cool on the rooftop? Join the ground floor to attend a concert! Every Thursday evening, the Café Vienés hosts a jazz band from 9pm to 11pm. Discover the program and the different menus here.
